Topic: "Laughter as a medicine"

General purpose: To inform the health benefit of laughter. (Causes)

Specific purpose: I would like to inform the audience some facts about laughter.

Central idea: I am going to talk about how laughter can be strong medicine for mind, how it help us stay emotionally healthy, and its social benefits.

1. Show the video and pictures of laughing happily.

2. From my own experience.
i. Sometimes I will get migrain or headache.
ii. When I am stress, I can feel more pain. But, if I laugh, for example while watching comedy movie, I can feel that the pain was reduced.
iii. Unconsciously I will forgot about the pain for a while.

1. Laughter can be infectious.
i. Have you suddenly laughing when you heard someone laughing crazily, although you actually have no idea about what actually happen?

2. Humor can triggers laughter.
i. From a research by Prof. Robert Provine, less than 20% of laughter was in response to anything resembling a joke.
ii. Based on definition from Wikipedia, laughter is an audible expression or the appearance of happiness, or an inward feeling of joy. It may happen as a physiological reaction from jokes, tickling or other stimuli.

1. Now, what does this have to do with health? From my research, laughter have several benefits to human health, especially to mental.

2. Today, I will tell you how laughter can be strong medicine for mind, how it help us stay emotionally healthy, and its social benefits.

A. Main Body 1: Laughter is strong medicine for mind

- Laughter reduces levels of certain stress hormones which suppress the immune system, increase the number of blood platelets - which can cause obstructions in arteries, and raise blood pressure
- By laughing, we can relieves physical tension and stress. It will leaving our muscle to relax for up to 45 minutes after.

ii. Supporting detail 2: Laughter can boost the immune system
- Laughter can decreases stress hormones and increases immune cells and infection-fighting antibodies. Thus, this can improve our resistance to disease.

iii. Supporting detail 3: Laughter triggers the release of endorphine
- Endorphine is a body's natural feel-good chemicals. As endorphine released, it can promote an overall sense of well-being. This will also can even temporarily relieve pain.
- According to physiological studies, the laughter can also stimulates our cardiovascular systems. Laughing can increase the rate at which the heart beats and contracting the muscles. As doing so, laughter can protects our heart.
